The World Groans and Humanity is Wounded
In every corner of the world, heart-wrenching cries rise from countless injustices: homelessness, hunger, addiction, corruption, and moral decay, alongside tyranny and wars. This is a clear declaration that the world is groaning and humanity is subjected to a heavy yoke of pain.
The Wound of Poverty and Inequality
Humanity is wounded by the deadly sting of poverty. While the vast majority suffers from the cruelty of hunger, a tiny minority indulges in excessive wealth that breeds evil. I once read about a legendary wedding where chairs and plates were made of gold for 6,000 guests, while millions sleep on sidewalks. What kind of world is this where one dies of hunger and another of overindulgence?
Moral Decay and the Illusion of Freedom
Moral decay has added a deep wound to human suffering. Lust has become the god of this era, and many have lost their purpose and will. The question remains: Is freedom living in corruption? True freedom is doing what one ought to do, not just what one wants to do. As St. Peter emphasized, freedom should not be a cover for evil.
The Wounds of War and Human Greed
War is a wound that continues to haunt humanity, filling hearts with historical hatred. Wars are the pinnacle of violence that shatters bonds and robs man of peace. This stems from human enmity since Cain and Abel, and from insatiable greed. Even the science that reached space is the same that gave us atomic bombs and biological warfare.
The Reign of Fear and Human Tyranny
Fear is an ancient wound that paralyzes the human soul and hinders progress. A fearful person cannot create. However, Christ came to liberate man from the fear of heaven and the tyranny of men. He stood with His whip to drive out the spirit of paganism and materialism from the Temple, declaring that those who use religion to trap money are traitors to divine law.
Thirst for True Freedom
Man is wounded because he thirsts for Freedom. We see birds dancing on branches, joyful because they are free. Many nations gained political freedom but did not find a better world. Respecting individual freedom is a divine law, not a gift from men. Societies that respected human dignity flourished, while those that trampled it lived in darkness.
The Greatest Wound Distance from God
The greatest wound is the lack of true knowledge of God. Despite the spread of culture, many are not sincere in their relationship with the Creator. Man was created for God, and as St. Augustine said: Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee. No matter what a person possesses, they will never find true happiness while distant from God.
